MILLSTONE TOWNSHIP FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE
TO HOST SECOND ANNUAL “FAMILY MOVIE DAY” OCTOBER 14
“Dolphin Tale” is Most Popular Movie Choice Among Millstone Township Students
MILLSTONE TOWNSHIP, NJ, September 25, 2012 – Millstone Township Foundation for Educational Excellence (MTFEE) will be hosting its second annual “Family Movie Day” on October 14 at the Millstone Township Performing Arts Center (MPAC) at 5 Dawson Court. MTFEE is a non-profit organization devoted to funding grants for items that nurture extraordinary educational experiences for every student in the Millstone Township School District. Pre-movie kid’s activities including carnival games, Halloween-themed crafts and games, face painting and tattoos are planned to begin at 1:00 p.m. The movie, “Dolphin Tale,” will start at 2:30 p.m. A concession stand will be available for refreshments.
A $5 minimum donation is requested with advanced R.S.V.P. $6 at the door. Donations will help provide grant funding for innovative and exciting classroom programs, educational opportunities for students, staff development, and state-of-the-art teaching materials that are beyond the scope of the general school budget. MTFEE will be taking a separate collection that day, which will be donated to Clearwater Marine Aquarium in the name of “Millstone Township Students,” where Winter currently resides. The facility relies on generous tax-deductible donations to meet its daily operating and animal care needs.
Families who pre-order tickets online will be entered into a raffle to win either a “Family Four Pack Movie Night,” which includes four AMC “Gold” movie passes (does not have a “current release” movie restriction, like other passes), two fountain sodas, and popcorn or one of four “Date Night Packs,” which include two AMC “Gold” movie passes. There will be one winner per family.
To build excitement and get the students involved, the foundation asked the teachers in the Primary and Elementary schools to poll their students on several popular family-friendly movies. The winning movie was “Dolphin Tale” starring Harry Connick, Jr., Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd. “Dolphin Tale” (PG-rated) is inspired by the amazing true story of a brave dolphin and the compassionate strangers who banded together to save her life. The real Winter, who plays herself in “Dolphin Tale,” today serves as a symbol of courage, perseverance and hope to millions of people—both able and disabled—who have been touched by her remarkable story of recovery and rehabilitation.
MTFEE operates independently from the school district and replenishes its grant fund exclusively through private donations and its fundraising efforts. The foundation has awarded more than $432,000 in grants to Millstone Township schools since 2002. MTFEE grants, which have been awarded at every grade level and in every discipline, have included SMARTBoards®, mobile computer and iPad™ labs, and a rock climbing wall. MTFEE was the first organization in the district to put iPads™ into the classroom in the spring of 2011.
There are currently more than 60 MTFEE-funded grant programs running. Every child that matriculates through the school district will in some way benefit from an MTFEE-funded grant. MTFEE is a member of New Jersey Education Foundation Partnership and The National Consortium of State and Local Education Foundations (NCEFS).
